In 2023, nearly 1 million Danes started a new job, according to data from the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment. This is the second-highest figure recorded since statistics began in 2009.
The most common reasons for changing jobs:
1. Need for new challenges
2. Better utilisation of skills
3. Desire for higher salary
4. Poor working environment
Personality tests are often used in recruitment to ensure the right person is hired.
However, none of the above reasons for leaving a job can be predicted through personality tests, CVs, interviews, or initial discussions when contracts are signed and expectations set.
But, what does it take to create a long-term employment relationship?
The key is to move beyond a one-sided focus on the candidate and instead ask ourselves: How can we, as a company, ensure that we are also the right workplace for the incoming employee?
In other words, do we truly understand who we are, know our competencies, strengths, and limitations as a team and organisation, so that when we meet our “new colleague,” acceptance and understanding of differences can form the foundation for respect, openness, and trust?
Probably not!
We must therefore rethink the entire recruitment process. In the future, we should also assess the team - so we not only hire the right candidate but also ensure we are the right workplace for our new colleague.
